Hubei S234 Provincial Road Major Rehabilitation
On the S234 Yongjia River to Liujia segment in Hubei's Red'an County, Beizhu enabled full on-site material recycling via foam asphalt cold recycling, eliminating waste transport and exceeding structural specifications while meeting strict environmental controls in a remote location.
Project Background
The S234 Yongjia River to Liujia segment in Red'an County, Hubei Province required comprehensive pavement rehabilitation. The section suffered significant structural damage with widespread reflective cracking, rutting, and moisture damage to the base layers. The remote mountainous location limited access to fresh aggregate sources and imposed strict environmental controls.
Challenge
Conventional rehabilitation would have required importing large volumes of new aggregate—logistically difficult and costly in this remote area. Environmental regulations also restricted the volume of milled material that could be transported off site.
Solution
Beizhu's foam asphalt cold recycling process utilised 100% of the in-situ reclaimed material, eliminating the need to import fresh aggregate or transport milled waste. The entire operation was completed in a single continuous pass per lane, with immediate structural layer completion and no extended curing period.
Results
Full recycling of the existing pavement layer was achieved with zero waste export. Structural performance testing exceeded design specifications in all categories. The project demonstrated that foam asphalt cold recycling is a viable solution for environmentally sensitive, logistics-constrained rehabilitation sites.
