Hainan S308 WPCB400 Cold Recycling for Tropical High-Temperature and High-Humidity Conditions
On the 24.21 km Danzhou S308 section, Beizhu used WPCB400 to convert old asphalt pavement into an 8 cm high-performance flexible base with 83% RAP content.
Background
S308 is a key trunk road serving western Hainan and Yangpu Port. Heavy traffic caused aging, insufficient bearing capacity and structural cracking, while tropical rainfall and ecological requirements made full reconstruction costly and wasteful.
Challenge
High humidity demanded strong water stability, construction had to maintain heavy traffic, and local aggregate transport costs were high.
Solution
Beizhu provided an equipment, materials, process and service package centered on WPCB400.
The dual-mixing drum system and closed-loop foaming control ensured uniform coating and stable mix quality under high RAP content.
A tropical mix design used 83% RAP, 1.5% cement and 2.8% foamed bitumen.
Results
The project achieved 83% RAP utilization, recycled about 191,000 tons of old pavement material, reduced unit cost by about 85 RMB/m2, shortened the schedule by 30%, and reduced carbon emissions by about 1,600 tons.
