Qinghai-Tibet G109 Plateau-Customized WPCB400 for High-Altitude Permafrost Rehabilitation

On the Qinghai-Tibet Highway G109, Beizhu's plateau-customized WPCB400 enabled large-scale foamed bitumen cold recycling at about 4,800 m elevation, compressing an expected 12-month schedule to 4 months.

Background

G109 is a critical national trunk road connecting Qinghai and Tibet. The project crosses permafrost, alpine hypoxia and ecologically sensitive regions, with widespread cracking, rutting, raveling and through-cracks on the existing pavement.

Challenge

Equipment had to overcome high-altitude power attenuation, large temperature variation, freeze-thaw durability requirements, fragile ecology and an extremely short effective construction season.

Solution

Beizhu optimized WPCB400 for plateau power, combustion and temperature-control conditions.

The mix used a cement-foamed bitumen dual stabilization structure to improve strength, water stability and freeze-thaw resistance.

Continuous production, standardized paving and full-process digital monitoring ensured rapid, traceable construction.

Results

The project completed a 58.2 km foamed bitumen recycled demonstration section in 4 months, achieved 52% RAP utilization, reduced carbon emissions by over 60%, and minimized disturbance to the permafrost ecosystem.
